Today’s story is super special and from the Dominican Republic. It beautifully illustrates how God uses children with their simple child-like faith to build His kingdom. Our leader shared this at a conference several years ago. This 8 year old boy in the story is a Prayer Covenant kid as they’re often called and ministered to this man through the boldness of this boy.
lifestyle of prayer and evangelism
My name is Nelson Segura. I want to tell you the story of my call to be a Christian. It was a typical Sunday morning. I had left my house to meet some friends and have some drinks, play dominos and simply fellowship. While walking on the sidewalk, I felt someone take my hand; it was a little boy around 8 years of age. I wanted to let go but the boy grabbed me tightly so that I could accompany him inside a room where there were more people. It looked like a church and I remember thinking “I’m not properly dressed.”
For a reason I cannot explain, I let myself go by the will of that little boy and sat down in the pew of the church where the boy led me. Immediately they began singing. I fainted. I believe that I fell asleep and heard the voices of the songs but could not wake up to see people singing. I remember their voices sounded like angels. After some time, I got up from the floor to sit again on the pew, I felt a great need; it was like hunger but not for food. At that moment I heard the one who was talking to the people saying, “Do you want Christ today?” I replied, “Yes, that is what I want. I want Christ. I went forward and they prayed for me and asked me to confess with my mouth, Jesus, come into my heart” and after those words I felt filled. I was no longer hungry or in need of anything at that moment.
Three years have passed, I fully understand that only Christ fills the spiritual void that we all have.”
The 8 year old boy was filled with the Holy Spirit – not a junior holy spirit as some might think. When children are praying, “Fill me with your Holy Spirit.” They receive the same Spirit that you and I possess, and when they are obedient to the prompting of the Spirit, miracles happen.
